How many of you have tried Brussels sprouts? It was definitely not a food I grew up eating and the first time I tried them was when I was an adult. The first time I tried them, they were..well, just-meh. Nothing special, but I wasn’t going to give up on Brussels sprouts so quickly. After all, what kind of dietitian would I be if didn’t at least try them again. While I was brainstorming ways I could prepare Brussels sprouts in a way that would satisfy my taste buds, I turned back to my Desi roots and decided to season them with garam masala! Oh boy! This was a game changer! Paring the somewhat new food (ie the Brussels sprouts) with flavours that my family and me are familiar with turned us into Brussels sprout fans! These Brussels sprouts are spicy, crispy, and filled with flavour.
Brussels sprouts are part of the cruciferous family. Other members of this family include kale, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, radish, collard greens, mustard greens..and the list goes on). They are also a source of vitamin A, vitmain C, folate, potassium and fibre.
